Pro-M Zrt. in the GN5-2 Project

Közzétéve: 2025-08-18

GÉANT is a European Union–funded, high-performance data and information technology infrastructure that interconnects the national research and education networks (NRENs) of 43 European countries. Serving more than 50 million users across 10,000 research and education institutions, GÉANT provides a dynamic platform linking scientific and academic communities across Europe.

The organization’s mission is to deliver high-speed, secure, and reliable data connectivity and related services to the European research community while facilitating international research collaboration. Established in 1992 by Europe’s NRENs, GÉANT has continuously evolved — and its next phase, the 5th Generation, Phase 2 (GN5-2) Project, officially launched on 1 January 2025 under the EU’s Horizon Europe programme.

The GN5-2 Project brings together 39 European partners, each representing their respective country — with Pro-M Zrt. serving as Hungary’s national representative. Its overarching goal is to expand Europe’s high-capacity backbone network, test and deploy next-generation network technologies, enhance identity and access management services, and improve the scalability of GÉANT and NREN services. The project also focuses on developing “Above the Net” services (such as OCRE 2024, edumeet, data mobility solutions, PaaS, and unified research data management platforms), strengthening research infrastructure security, and advancing the open science ecosystem.

Pro-M Zrt. plays an active professional role in the implementation of the project, participating in four key work packages. Its responsibilities include coordinating professional activities, identifying and engaging end-user requirements, developing cloud-based and complementary research services (including edumeet), and contributing to the advancement of identity and access management (IAM) frameworks.

The project’s technical lead is János Mohácsi, International Innovation Expert at Pro-M Zrt.

Pro-M Zrt. remains fully committed to developing research and education networks and is proud to contribute to achieving Europe’s strategic digital and scientific objectives.
