The European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) is an initiative launched by the European Commission in 2015 to advance open and data-driven research across Europe. The EOSC’s mission is to provide all European researchers with open access to the repositories, supercomputing capacities, and cloud services they need, while enabling the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) sharing of research data and software, as well as access to online training opportunities for continuous professional development.
As one of the key enablers of data-based research in the European Union, the EOSC connects researchers through a federated network of Nodes and infrastructures, collectively known as the EOSC Federation, facilitating seamless collaboration and interoperability between national research ecosystems.
In recent years, several Hungarian institutions have contributed to EOSC-related projects, including the Governmental Agency for IT Development (KIFÜ), which participated in NI4OS-Europe, EOSC Future, and Skills4EOSC projects. Until 2024, KIFÜ was the sole Hungarian member of the EOSC Association, regularly reporting on domestic open science developments via its website and through the Open Science Forums. In December 2024, following the dissolution of KIFÜ, a significant portion of its research support and digital infrastructure responsibilities was transferred to Pro-M Zrt.
At the EOSC Association General Assembly held in May 2025, Pro-M Zrt. formally presented its activities and applied for membership. The application was unanimously approved, making Pro-M Zrt. a full member of the EOSC Association.
During the same General Assembly, participants reviewed the organization’s annual reports and strategic priorities for the coming years. The session also marked a leadership transition, as the founding president, Karl Luyben, stepped down, and Klaus Tochtermann, Director of the ZBW – Leibniz Information Centre for Economics in Kiel and Hamburg, was elected as the new president of the EOSC Association.
Through its membership and active involvement, Pro-M Zrt. is committed to advancing Hungary’s integration into the European Open Science ecosystem, strengthening the country’s role in research data management, digital infrastructure development, and open science collaboration at the continental level.
